Vojenská história, 3, 30, 2026, pp 95-112., Bratislava.

The aim of the article is primarily, on the basis of archival documents – the majority of which are used for the first time – to describe methods of deploying horses and to assess the care provided to these animals in Czechoslovak military units on the Eastern European theatre of war between 1943 and 1945. In contrast to Czechoslovak military units operating during the World War 2 in Western Europe and the Middle East, which had been fully motorised after 1941, horses still constituted an important means of transport for Czechoslovak military units on the Eastern European theatre of war. This is, however, not an exhaustive study, but rather a preliminary investigation into this issue.

Keywords: horses, veterinary hospitals, Czechoslovak military units on the Eastern Front, the liberation of Czechoslovakia.
