The author deals with persons of captains of Banská Bystrica town castle and their deputies in the office, the gunsmith masters. Although the oldest written record on a town castle captain comes from 1459, a beginning of the mentioned function may be put to the period before a half of the 15th century, and particularly it has a direct relation to the building of the town castle. The captain’s task was a complex protection of the whole castle area, in which there were many sacral and profane objects. The author in details analyses a scope of work of both the positions, their salaries, arms production for the town and their social position in the community of Banska Bystrica.
