A mass extension of firearms is as for time covered with the revolutionary invention and boom of the typography in Europe. Thanks to the typography in such a way the contemporaries of modern times as if started again discovering the important military works of ancient au-thors — especially of Livius, Caesar, Vegetius on the one hand — and on the other hand as if they familiarized themselves with then current medieval and contemporary military works that were printed. Based on the research of bibliographic records the author of the study found out that in historic libraries in the territory of the former Hungarian Kingdom there are 309 books (305 printed and 4 manuscripts) of 16th and 17th centuries devoted to military issues. Analysing the composition of military and historic works and describing separate titles and authors we can create today a more complex idea of the Hungarian warfare as well as of European one of the early modern times.
