In the study the author pointed out that military service of Carpathian Germans in the period since autumn 1938 to summer 1941  had been modified several times. The Governmental Regulation No. 39 of 24 February 1939 brought liberation of Carpathian Germans from the military service in the Czecho-Slovak Army. The establishment of the Slovak State changed the situation diametrically and also the German Empire agreed with the military service of Carpathian Germans in the Slovak Army; however the Supreme Command of German Defence Power (OKW) considered the formation of special German units purposeless. The status of German units in the Slovak Army was not clear even at the beginning of the war against Poland. In the conclusion there is a mention of the military career of F. Karmasin during the eastern campaign.
