The study describes characteristics of origination, development and creation of military symbols in modern historic conditions after the establishment of the SR Army (the Armed Forces) of the Slovak Republic. The author deals with the analysis of principles and rules of heraldry and possibilities of their gradual implementation within development and creation of military symbols. He characterises necessity of the establishment of internal standardised legal and institutional environment. He denotes in practical form the implementation of given principles and rules adopted for the given area of military symbols on the example of creation of emblems of military formations and facilities in the Ministry of Defence sector. In continuity to the above-mentioned, the study aims also at issues connected with development and creation of military symbols within combat flags, historic and honorary titles of military formations and large units.
