In his study, the author monitored the history of the Military Hospital in Ružomberk since its origin following the outbreak of the World War 1 until the end of the World War 2. The paper describes the origin and organizational structure of the hospital. During its history, the hospital started out as the temporary rescue and quarantine station dislocated in various objects of the town of Ružomberok in 1914, later becoming the so called barracks hospital. In the inter-war period, a stable military hospital originated, located partially in the brick buildings as well as in the original, even if reconstructed, barracks. The author describes the hospital reorganization in the pre-World War 2 period, the poor state of the most important hospital units on the threshold of war, construction of the modern pavilions after 1940, transition to the fulfilment of military tasks, involvement of the hospital in the Slovak National Uprising, evacuation, the hospital’s activity after the suppression of the Uprising until the liberation of Ružomberok. The author details the historical facts on the hospital’s activity in the context of significant historical events. The author’s processing of the study was based mostly on the archival documents of the Military History Archive Bratislava and the Liptov Museum in Ružomberok. A number of factual information was also drawn from the MNO Journals, personal files of individual hospital representatives. The paper is suitably complemented with photographs.
