The study deals with reign of the Austrian duke Frederick II. Babenberg (1230 – 1246) and his continuous disputes and wars against neighbours, especially the Czech and Hungarian Kingdom, also considering the Hungarian narrative reports which represent a significant addition to the knowledge of military operations. However, the issue of fights for eventual heritage after this childless monarch is also analysed, being joined by the Curia and the Emperor in addition to the Central-European elite. These disputes continued to flourish especially after the death of Duke Frederick as the last member of the Babenbergs, in the battle of the Leitha River in 1246.
