The material study deals with the partial issue concerning the complex negotiations on the character of the protective zone which was created in 1939 based on the protective agreement between the German Empire and Slovakia. In addition to other complex questions negotiated with members of the German Military Committee, also the extent of Slovak military presence in the protective zone territory was discussed. Yet, the literature up to now has not examined this issue, only being limited to the statement that according to the amendment to the Agreement on the Issues resulting from the Protective Agreement between the SR and German Empire, the Slovak party was enabled to send 3 battalions of Slovak frontier guard from three garrison forces into the zone, in order to militarize the financial guard, one of them being able to perform the service in the protective zone directly (the garrison force in Senica). Author of the contribution perceives this issue comprehensively in the context of ongoing negotiations on the extent and nature of the protective zone. In this respect, he also carefully analyses the fate of the project of symbolic garrison guards, the Slovak party was trying to maintain in the protective zone territory. However, due to German unwillingness, among other things, this project was closed 1940 already. As regards the heuristic base itself, the author draws mostly on the literature and archival sources of the Military History Archive in Bratislava.
