Operational deployment of Slovak Aviation on the Eastern front in 1941 – 1943 belongs among the interesting chapters of the Slovak military history. Both the professional and general public has been mostly interested in deployment of the Slovak Fighter Squadron 13 within the German Fighter Wing 52. In the period from November 1942 to October 1943, its members fighting under this most successful German Luftwaffe Fighter Wing shot down 215 Soviet aircrafts, having only 4 own losses in the aviation staff. The fact less known is the existence of the proposal of the commander of the German 4th Aviation Army, General Field Marshal von Richtofen, to establish a higher autonomous Slovak aviation unit which should have fought at the Soviet-German front under the Slovak command, however with German aviation equipment borrowed. The Military History Archive Bratislava contains as yet unpublished archival records sufficiently clarifying this proposal as well as the standpoint of the Slovak Armed Forces command. Author publishes the transcript of these documents in full wording.
