Invasion of the Warsaw Treaty into Czechoslovakia in August 1968 belongs among the sad chapters of the common Czechoslovak history. The author states that the losses occurred to the Czechoslovak People’s Army (ČSĽA) and its members is an area little known. In spite of the fact that only a minimum number of incidents and extraordinary events occurred in mutual contact with the armies of the Warsaw Treaty in connection with their entry on the CS territory (mostly due to interventions), the issues were not negligible and the material losses were considerable. These incidents were investigated by the General Inspectorate of the People’s Army. Based on decision of the Chief of Staff, Lt-Gen. Karel Rusov, a special committee was established on 19 September 1968 aimed at investigating the incidents and damages caused to ČSĽA by the armies of the five Warsaw Treaty countries. The committee has proven that ČSĽA suffered mostly considerable damages both to objects and military equipment and also many incidents and extraordinary events occurred during the stay of the “allied” troops. Yet, the incomplete list of incidents and assessment of damages suffered by the CS military administration only concerned the units subordinated to MNO, excluding the units under the command of military districts and army commanders.
