The case-study submitted follows the short three-quarter-year activity of Alois Čáslavka in the position of Czechoslovak military attaché in Stockholm following his activities as an exposed intelligence officer in the Swedish metropolis. He exercised his duties in complicated circumstances, under extremely difficult material conditions and with lack of interest from Prague, probably caused by ambiguity of the attaché concept in Scandinavia. His activity was accompanied by constant lack of money and different technical problems, which is probably the reason why the results were weaker than they could have been under more favourable circumstances. On the other hand, he had a basis to build on, after having operated in Stockholm before, as the exposed intelligence officer since April 1944. The military attaché participated in collecting information from press and open sources as well as official contacts and last but not least through a network of informers. His reports concerned not only the relevant issues of military and political relations in Scandinavia and international events but he also gathered information about activities of the Sudeten Germans in the north of Europe, participated in negotiations about the sale of military material etc. The study is an interesting probe in the transformation of intelligence and diplomatic presence of Czechoslovakia in the north of Europe shortly after the World War II.
