In this contribution, the study of H. Pažurová focuses on the little known aspects in the life of this hero before 1943. At the beginning, the author appropriately draws the reader’s attention to the family and social relations of Ľ. Kukorelli’s childhood years. She brings information about his studies at the grammar school in Košice which was an intellectual and cultural stepping stone for the future resistance hero. Even if there are no direct testimonies of the motives of Ľ. Kukorelli’s decision to follow the military path, it should be noted that he was probably attracted to the army by the material security compared to the social insecurity he was witnessing in his family as a child. The author presents assessments of his superiors about the course and circumstances of young air force trainee’s military service: the whole service until 1939 is accompanied by positive assessments. In an appropriate way, the author outlines the life of Ľ. Kukorelli on the background of the coeval atmosphere and also provides the reader with respective orientation in the basic history and staffing of Slovak air force.
