On the basis of the published trilogy, Mementos of World War 1 I.-III., complemented by additional research, the authors provide an overview of military cemeteries in the north -eastern Slovakia which was directly affected by the World War 1. Combat operations in our territory took place from November 1914 to May 1915. They hit the area of today’s districts of Bardejov, Svidník, Stropkov, Medzilaborce, Humenné and Snina. The region was heavily hit by the War and affected for a long period of time. After a hundred years, a majority of the war footprints have been covered by nature or human. Heavy fi ghting is only commemorated by the remains of trench lines of the Carpathian Mountains and dozens of military cemeteries where victims of these fi ghts have been buried. The military cemeteries of the World War 1 represent a unique complex of military- -historical monuments in the region of north -eastern Slovakia.
