In the study, the author explores the construction of ammunition plant in Slovakia in the 1930’s and states that it had been projected mostly due to military-strategic reasons. Increase of the supply of arms and ammunition for the Czechoslovak Army and their export to the world as well as an actual possibility of threat from Germany resulted in shifting the military production to the relatively safer territory of Slovakia. Two of the largest and most important plants were built in Dubnica nad Váhom and Považská Bystrica. The Dubnica plant served as a branch of Škoda Plzeň and the Považská Bystrica plant was a branch of Československá Zbrojovka. The study further mentions the military threat from Germany as the reason for implementing the transfer and new construction of ammunition plants, weapon programs in the functioning plants, construction of fortifications, various military facilities, warehouses, transport infrastructure and power engineering in the period in question. In case of conflict, the central Považie was considered to be relatively least vulnerable and a suitable location for origination of new significant basis of the Czechoslovak armament industry. In addition to the largest armament capacities in Dubnica nad Váhom and Považská Bystrica, Trenčín was another important town affected by the armament wave. Construction of some other armament plants also started. The new plants included an Explosive Production Plant S-2 in Sučany near Martin, Military Plant 3 in Nováky and Warfare Agents Manufactory in Chalmová. As early as in 1928, the project of chemical works in Žilina (Military Plant 4) for manufacturing warfare gas was approved. In the second half of the 1930’s, the engineering company Tauš had to relocate from Bratislava to Myjava and the Michera Company to Stará Turá.
