MASKALÍK, Alex: Rehabilitations in the Czechoslovak Army after November 1989.

Vojenská história, 18, 3, 2014, pp. 129-150.

In the study, the author deals with rehabilitation in the CS army after the fall of the Communist regime in November 1989 in Czechoslovakia. He states that this process was accompanied by rehabilitations of all professional soldiers and civil employees of the Czechoslovak military administration discriminated by the Communist regime during its 40-year-long existence. Rehabilitations represented a part of a broader society-wide process, taking place with better organization than e.g. the transformation of the military personnel, and much more consistently and accountably than in any other resort or institution. The author quantified the number of rehabilitated at 9,152 persons, whereof 8,664 were former professional soldiers, 109 students of military schools and 379 civil employees. He is also dealing with the issue of compensation, including the remedies of moral, social and working nature, measures in the field of health care and material loss compensations, stating that several of them had the opportunity to return to the army. The process itself was significantly influenced by the political development in the country and could not avoid controversy.
