In the introduction of the published material, the author describes the battles in the Courland Pocket, which is presented in the specialized museum in the town of Zante, located in the central part of Courland. It lies to the north of a larger town of Saldus, on the route Saldus – Kandava, or Saldus – Tukums. The military museum is the dominant of Zante, Kurzemescietokšnamuzejs in Latvian. The museum exhibits a lot of rare military materials after the members of Wehrmacht and Red Army, who fought in the Latvian territory. The museum deposits and exhibits collections coming directly from the Courland battle fi elds and are bound to the military units deployed in this area. A minor part of the exhibition is dedicated to the World War 1 development in the Latvian territory and the evolution of the Latvian army in 1918 – 1945. Outdoors, the visitor may see various military machines of larger dimensions, mostly of Soviet as well as American origin. Also a replica of a World War 2 pillbox is made accessible. The hangars contain mostly military trucks as well as parts of vehicles and airplanes found in the Latvian battle fi elds. In addition, the running wheels and tracks from the legendary German tank, Tiger I, belonging to the panzer divisions stuck in the Courland Pocket, are waiting to be displayed.
