The Franco-Austrian War in 1809 significantly impacted the life of the inhabitants of Pressburg and its surroundings. The battles for the Pressburg bridgehead started in early June and lasted almost one and a half months. Pressburg itself also suffered several bombing attacks. There are relatively few ego-documents on the events taking place in Pressburg and its surroundings during this period. One of them is a now practically forgotten booklet published in 1809 in the German language titled Preßburg während der Belagerung, oder Beyträge zur Geschichte des Feldzuges von 1809. It was written by Gregor Dankovský, professor of Greek at the Royal Academy in Pressburg. The present paper is a commented Slovak translation of this source important for further research on the history of the city in the Napoleonic War period.
