The author of the article presents the fate of Rudolf Turček, who as a medic worked his way up from a non-commissioned officer of the ambulance service to a lieutenant of the 71st Infantry Regiment. In June 1918 he commanded an assault group (Sturmgruppe) as a member of which he captured several lines of Italian trenches on the right bank of the Piava River. He then proceeded towards Meolo. On the night of 22-23 June, the attackers withdrew to the left bank under orders. For his heroic actions, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Bravery for Officers. The reasons for the award of the medal are contained in the German text in the Annex. Turček also excelled as an officer of the CS army in the battles against the Hungarian Bolshevik expansion. In the times of peace he devoted himself to the medical profession. Until now, his activities as a commander and instructor in the elite “k.u.k.Sturmtruppe” have not been the subject of research.
