In his paper, the author deals with the personality of Julius Thurzo, who served as a reserve officer on various ships of the Austro-Hungarian Navy during the World War I. He first served in the Adriatic Sea, followed by a transfer to the Danube River in November 1915. In 1916-1917 he served as the commander of the VÁG armed steamer, achieving the rank of the Corvette Lieutenant in Reserve (Korvetten-Leutnant in der Reserve). For the time being, data on his military activities in 1918 are absent. According to provisionally available sources, Julius Thurzo achieved the highest military rank among the Slovaks serving at the Austro-Hungarian Navy.
