The study deals chronologically with the activities of the Hessian 25th Reserve-Division on the territory of north-eastern Slovakia during March – May 1915, when the battles in the Carpathian Mountains reached their peak. The division was part of the German Beskidenkorps, led by General Georg von der Marwitz. The Corps was dispatched to the Carpathian Mountains to help the Austro-Hungarian 3rd Army hold back the Russian offensive. The 25th Reserve-Division played a significant role in the victory of the Easter Battle in the Carpathian Mountains, where they managed to halt the Russian advance. The division participated in the fiercest battles for Hill 600 and Point 640 Kobyla north of Valentovce. The division headquarters was located in the village of Zbojné and at Point 586 Trostjansky vrch north of Zbojné. The division had three infantry regiments, one cavalry regiment, and three artillery regiments. Between 11 and 13 April 1915, the division repelled the last Russian attack in the area west of the village of Výrava. From 5 – 8 May 1915, the 25th Reserve Division participated in driving the Russians out of Slovak territory. Its units liberated the village of Výrava. The division’s regiments fought the final battles of the First World War in Slovakia in the Magura mountain range near the present-day Slovak-Polish border.
