Study deals with events in the Eastern Front during the World War I. This problemacy has been elaborated in the Slovak historiography only marginally until now. The author of the contribution in the 1st part observes the Eastern front movement from August 1914 in all its complexity. In the 2nd part, especially on the base of the period print, notices response and the impact of these military events in Slovakia. He follows several directions, through which the Slovak society perceived the development of the front battles. It continues the battle deployment and official evaluation of the Slovak soldiers of V. and VI. Corps sacrifice, who fought during this period within 1. and 4. Army. The author does not omit the Russian soldiers’ behaviour in the occupieted Slovak territory and provides also plastic picture of its military destruction.
