Although burghers in Kingdom Hungary did not play key role, they had in the defence system of country indispensable place. Way of military duties of prerogative (royal independent and mining) towns depended on nature of military conflicts and period conditions, thus it underwent numerous alterations. Military duties of towns and burghers rested not only on their participation of global country defence thorough paying military taxes, supplying the troops with materiel, equipment and rations, but also through delivering fixed number of military personnel and direct defence of own town. In this case it meant first of all patrol service and in care of direct threat, combat service of burghers, especially building and maintenance of urban fortifications. That is the reason why author seeks for collected view on phenomenon of Middle Age town and urban fortification (ramparts) in Hungarian legislation - legal field, but he takes practical view as well. In the part dedicated to the arms and armour of the town self it is mentioned also the military inventory from Bratislava (1944), which is so far the oldest town document of this kind within the whole Hungary.
