The study deal - s with the establishment and development of units and formations of airborne troops in Slovakia in the 50s, especially with their organizational development and deployment. As a result of the Second World War, airborne troops were established, in spite of conflicting views about the usefulness of their employment, in most modem armies, including the Czechoslovak Army. Airborne troops were formed to accomplish the tasks at the enemy rear. The organization, preparation, training, armament and equipment had to correspond to this purpose. The development of the organization and deployment changes within units and formations of the airborne troops were determined by economic and political conditions the development of the warfare due to tire onset of the Scientific-Technical Revolution and the needs of the state defense. The airborne troops, as a special section of the army, came into being in Czechoslovakia in 1948. The first airborne formation in Slovakia was formed in the spring of 1950. During the reorganization of the army in 1952, the bulk of Czechoslovak troops was concentrated in the Eastern part of Slovakia. At the beginning of the 60s, the deployment center of the troops moved to Moravia. In 1963, the airborne troops ceased to exist as a special branch of the army. The build up, training and subsequent 10 years of operation of the airborne troops was a valuable experience which can be put to good use in the future development of the Slovak Army.
