This scientific survey deals with a matter, which was put under taboo for several years and which also nowadays is given too little attention - the political preparation of the military intervention against Czechoslovak Republic in August 1968. Using archival historic publications, the author analyses the entire process from planning to realization, presented to the reader in three basic time frames. The survey focuses only on one out of various different alternatives prepared concurrently in order to solve the so-called Czechoslovak problem — on the emergency alternative, which in the end result means a military intervention and the occupation of the former Czecho-Slovakia, lasting more than twenty years.
