The author of this document focuses on the question how Slovak revivalists apprehended the military combat potential of Slovakia and the Slovak defense system. The work is based on an analysis of handwritten materials dating back to the second half of the 1930-ies - Geography I and State Symbols - both written in „the Slovakized Czech language“ - a language used officially by a part of the Slovak educated class before the codification of the official Slovak language by revivalist Ľudovít Štúr. The cited manuscripts can be found in the Library of the Ethnographic Museum at the Slovak National Museum in the town of Martin. They were handbooks, in which the basic information on the then Slovakia and on the conditions prevailing in that era were compiled. Both manuscripts show the location of Slovakia and provides information on neighboring countries and nations. Both works declare, that the Slovaks as a nation have certain features or qualities of character to call their own and apart from dealing with the possibilities and the potential to defend the Slovak territory, they treat also the military dispositions of Slovak citizens.
