On the basis of available archive materials the author tries to point out to the circumstances of the Rapid Division attempts (1st Field Division) to pass to the Red Army in January 1943 and at the end of October 1943, provides a characteristic of Gen. Š. Jurech’s personality, whose name is linked to those preparations, partly unveils the development within the Rapid Division (1st Field Division), points out to the attitude of the Czechoslovak Ministry of National Defence in London and the initiatives of its bodies particularly since the beginning of the second half of 1943, with stress on the mission of the Czechoslovak paratroopers sent to the 1st FD by the chief of the Czechoslovak Military Mission in the Soviet Union, Gen. H Pika.
