The author deals in the respective study with the preparation of higher commanders and staff officers of the Czechoslovak Army in 1918 — 1939. It is based on archive materials. It depicts in detail not only the formation of the Czechoslovak military schools in 1918 and 1921, but also chronologically analyses the plans in the area of the Czechoslovak military schools and the way to the foundation of the War College in Prague in 1921. It also provides characteristics of the War College mission in 1921 — 1934 and specifies the numbers of faculty members and graduates in individual years. The main part of the study is formed by the description of the War College activities in 1934 — 1939. Attention is focused on the changes in tuition documentation at the War College during the 1930s. It also provides the characteristics of changes in the Military Doctrine of the Czechoslovak Republic in the period when the sovereignty was threatened. It also deals with the events after Munich, particularly the specific question of the Slovak autonomous government, in regard of retraining the officers with the Slovak nationality.
