In the introduction the author of the study outlined the consequences of the powerful strike of the Russian troops in Halič at the beginning of WW I at the foundations of the Austro-Hungarian Army. He outlined both the situation in the Russian Army and its next strategic direction. He also described the objectives of Warsaw-Ivangorod operation and Lodž operation. In connection with the penetration to the passes of the Carpathians in November 1914 he outlined the situation when the Slovak towns were occupied. He analysed the plans of the Russian Army offensive through the Carpathians to Budapest and Vienna that were developed in the first half of December 1914 and outlined strengthening of the Austro-Hungarian Army with German forces as well as provided detailed description of the Carpathian operation course (from 23 January to 24 April 1915), that in the end finished, despite the successful course in favour of Russia, with the withdrawal of the Russian Army.
