DANGL, Vojtech: To the Prestige of Officers Corps in the Period of Dualism. Vojenská história, 5, 1, 2001, pp. 3 – 16.

In the study the author characterises the officer corps of Austrian and Hungarian Army after Austrian and Hungarian settlement in 1867 and its perception by the wide public. He refers to the fact that the officer corps was more and more perceived as an extraordinary subject with special rules of its internal life. The officer corps members achieved a high degree of society status also because of their education level. In further part the author analyses the interconnection of Austrian and Hungarian officer corps with the monarch and dynasty. He analyses also manifestations of officer life style, special code of officer honour that had deep roots in the Army and was derived from medieval chivalrous ideas as e.g. chivalrous duels. He illustrates the way of being on Christian name terms between officers. He refers to the fact that also the marriage was one of further characteristics of the old Hungarian officer corps separating it from other society layers. He shows how phenomena connected with the officer corps were liable to assessment criteria that influenced many factors and were connected with social changes.
