Reign of the king Matthias I between 1458 — 1490 entered history of the old Hungarian kingdom. Many stereotype or generalising opinions have been manifested in the past and are manifested to date in connection with evaluation of the king Matthias and his time. Especially the military policy, seemingly defensive against the Ottoman Empire and offensive, even expansive in relation to western and north-western neighbours is the subject of antagonistic evaluations. Analysing almost 30 legislative and legal norms the author of the study describes legislative activity in the field of warfare between 1458 — 1490 and refers to the extent of reflection of particular military and political events or situations in the legislature.
