The study deals with to date insufficiently elaborated issue of activity of the regime and governmental and repressive machinery in the period of preparation of the Slovak Army for the war against Poland and during this war. The attention is focused on the position of Hlinka “s party and its activity. The author takes notice also of the Army and further elements of governmental and repressive machinery (gendarmes, state police, financial guard and justice). In the first part of the study he characterises the efforts of the regime to militarise the society, to prepare and realise mobilisation, he describes anti-war acts of soldiers, growing ambitions of the government and its repressive activity. In the second part he analyses measures of the regime to prevent resistance against the war with Poland. He pays attention also to co-operation of Slovak and German intelligence bodies related to crossing to Poland where the Czech and Slovak Legion was formed, as well as to measures aimed at providing security of German troops in their entry to the Slovak territory and organisation of counterespionage activity of Hlinka’s guard.
