MICHÁLEK, Slavomír: Military and Political Aspects of Presence of the American Army in Czechoslovak Republic in 1945. Vojenská história, 5, 4, 2001, pp. 54 — 61.

The study deals with one of the most sensitive military and political issues of proximate development in Czechoslovakia after the World War II. In the first part the author refers to diplomatic negotiations and standpoints of the Great Britain and the USA that they had at the end of the war and that influenced their argumentation in favour of military allied operation in the territory of Czechoslovakia or against it. In the next part of the study the author describes particular post-war negotiations of Czechoslovak, American and Soviet officials and presents their attitudes. He emphasises the American attitude (supported also by Czechoslovakia) concerning the departure of the American Army from Czechoslovak territory and namely that it is necessary to reach simultaneous departure of both armies, Soviet and American. The third part of the study describing the issues of financial settlement between CSR and USA for damages caused by the American Army stay in Czechoslovakia, is very important too. The author depicts bilateral negotiations, the amount and way of compensation. He leans on his own archive research.
