VITEK, Peter: Roman Influence in Egypt and Its Military Occupation. Roman Impact and Military Presence in Egypt during the Reign of Ptolemai Family. Vojenská história, 6, 2, 2002, pp. 3 — 25.

In the introduction of the study the author describes a penetration of Romans to Egypt, an establishment of mutual contacts and finally a military occupation of the country on the Nile. In the essence of the study the author follows the establishment of state authorities in the territory of a new Roman province and its integration in political, economic and social system of the Roman Empire. Great attention is paid to specific features of development of Egypt under the Roman dominion, struggles of domestic and Jude population against occupation and on this background to the establishment of military institutions of state administration (military garrisons). The study is a unique attempt in the Slovak historiography to deal with the antic history or the history of antiquity at all and within it to the military history from a slightly different point of view. It deals not only with the way of conducting the war and building the troops but also with broader issues of political and economic development having impact upon the military history in broad sense.

Keywords: Military History. Egypt. Antiquity. Impact of Rome upon Egypt.
