In the introduction the author describes the situation on battlefields of the World War II in 1944 and related political atmosphere in Slovakia. Then the author deals with the combat situation in the operational area of the army group Northern Ukraine in summer 1944, analyses measures of the army group Northern Ukraine in the rear front territory in July — August 1944. The author refers to the fact that the documentation is aimed at the description of the measures taken by the army group Northern Ukraine and its subordinated staffs in order to preserve stable political and military conditions in the territory of Eastern Slovakia declared as an operational area in the half of August 1944. A documentation annex is based on files of Heeresgruppe Nordukraine (army group Northern Ukraine) funds, German Ist Tank Army (Ammeegruppe Heinrici), XI and XXIV Armee-Korps (XI and XXIV Army Corps) located in Bundesarchiv-Miltdrarchiv in Freiburg/Breigau. The author states that due to that it is almost impossible to create a complete and perfect picture of conditions in Eastern Slovakia operational area. But also preserved documents are a source of valuable information of the tense situation before the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising.
