The female author from the Military Historical Archive in Budapest refers to the fact that due to the establishment of state power authorities of the so-called Danubian Monarchy of Habsburg Dynasty the king Ferdinand I in 1556 established the Court Military Council that administered military matters and later became a permanent and independent court institute. In this period official documents started to be regularly collected and recorded. Then the author describes the Kriegsarchive genesis in Vienna established in 1801. Besides collection and systemisation the new archive dealt with the assessment of files from the military science aspect. She describes a system of archival materials development after Austrian and Hungarian settlement as well as during the World War I. After the establishment of an independent Hungary an independent Military archive called Magyar Hadiigyminisztérium was established at the Ministry of Defence in Budapest in 1918. Concerning its organisation this archive was subordinated to the 1st group 10 section. There is a description of competence, manning, structure connected with reorganisation at the beginning of January 1919 when the institute worked under the name of Hadtdrténelmi Levéltir és Múzeum (Military Historical Archive and Museum). In 1922 the Museum was separated. The author refers to the fact that in the following decades the archive went through several organisational changes. She analyses a broad activity aimed at scientific and research fields and appreciates the role of leading personalities connected with the activity of this institution.
