The article is based up on historical literature of home and foreign provenience, supplemented with journal material and own archival research. Considering the geography of rather large complementary district of 16% defence regiment, the author points out some important personalities of the before-war, Slovak, political, economical and cultural life, who served in the regiment. The author succeeds in depiction of rather varied, vivid and accurate picture of Banská Bystrica at the beginning of war when the first battalions were leaving for the front. He rightly underlines the fact that the battalions of regiment were used as assistance in requisitions out of their complementary district in April and May of 1918. However the largest attention is paid to less known issue of activities of historical section of regiment created on the basis of command request at the beginning of 1917 within alternative battalion in Banská Bystrica. The article is concluded by the progress of occupation of the Slovak territory by the Czechoslovakian army from December 1918 to January 1919, when also the seats of battalions (Banská Bystrica, BalaZske Ďarmoty and Jelšava) were occupiedby 16th defence infantry regiment.
