ŠTEFÁNIK, Martin: The Introductory Phase of Venice-Hungarian Contention concerning the Dalmatian Territory till the Half of 12 Century.

Vojenská história, 8, 4, 2004, pp. 13 — 29.

In the study the author deals with a topic that has not been elaborated in the Slovak historic publication yet. He leans on the works of authors writing in Chroatian, Italian, Hungarian and German, but also on contemporary chronicles and collections of sources related to the mentioned topic. He follows the linkage of Dalmatia and Byzantium and the gradual release of this relation. In chronological sequence there are given interventions of Byzantium, Venice, Hungary and partially also of Genoa into the Chroatian Kingdom's matters and internal clashes and battles among individual centres on Dalmatian coast. He describes diplomatic efforts of Hungarian King Koloman at domination over Dalmatia, military actions between Hungary and Venice that with interruptions lasted almost 300 years.

Keywords: Military History. Southern Europe. 12 Century. Territorial Clash on Dalmatia.
