GERMUSKA, Pál: Beginnings of the Hungarian Export of Military Equipment to the Near East.

Vojenská história, 10, 3, 2006, pp. 58 – 70.

The author of the paper tried on the basis of Hungarian archive materials, recently made available, to outline first steps of the Hungarian foreign trade to increase the military equipment export. In the introduction the author states that the Hungarian industry – despite huge development programs in the beginning of the 50´s managed to satisfy claims of the Hungarian People’s Army. An export share in appreciation of the military industry products manufactured in Hungary has started to grow since the turn of the 50´s and the 60´s. The largest supplies of equipment were directed to Egypt, Syria and Iraq, in the first half of the 70´s it was already 25 % of the Hungarian military equipment export. The author deals also with an issue why just the Near East was the greatest customer of Hungarian military products.

Key words: Military History. Hungary.50´ and 60´years. Export of Military Equipment. Near East.
