The author analyses connections of the Wehrmacht attack against Poland on September 1, 1939. He states known facts that the Polish Army could not for a long time face stronger and more plentiful adversary who used a new way of battle – so-called blitzkrieg. Later, on September 17, 1939, also the Red Army joined in attacking against Poland. He describes formation of the home resistance movement structure and its armed elements. A plan of the national armed uprising aimed at liberation of the country from foreign rule and terror was prepared in connection with the Polish exile government. The author points out that from the beginning of preparations it was clear that without the air help of western allies the uprising would have a small chance of success. Although the Polish government had been preparing the air aid plan since November 1939, a first British airplane landed in Poland only in May 1944, shortly before breaking out the Warsaw Uprising. Preparations, course and assessment of the air aid of Anglo-Saxons for the Warsaw Uprising is described in a detailed report by Col Harold M. Threlfall who was a commander of the combat unit No. 139 in Bari and his role was to cooperate with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Allied Forces Headquarters.
