The study deals with military aspects of Byzantia´s history and its relations with nomad world of Pecenegs. The northern neighbour of Byzantia was one of key factors of Byzantine policy in the northern Black Sea region already since the half of the 10th century as it is obvious from Constantine Porfyrogennet´s work De administrando imperio. In his work the author monitors a culmination of power confrontation of both powers in 1088 – 1091. As a starting point the author selected the crisis year 1088 when in full appeared consequences of a heavy defeat of the Byzantine army at Dristra. In the second part the author deals with the course of fights in 1089 – 1091 when Alexij with help of new recruitment and squads from the west managed to stabilize temporarily the situation in Tracia. In spite of interim success the Byzantine diplomacy did not manage to prevent establishing contacts between Pecenegs and Selgiu emir Tzach operating from Small Asian Smyrna. The author deals with this problem in the third part of his study and points out a threatening danger of potential attack even against Constantinopol that finally did not occur. On the contrary, the Byzantine Army strengthened by squads of nomad Uzes in the battle of Lebunion managed a perfect turn in the Peceneg war connected with elimination of the Peceneg troops´ core. An exact reconstruction of this battle is described in the final part of his study: in addition to the real description of its course and the Byzantine army structure the author tries to topografically determine an exact place where the mentioned battle took place.
