The objective of this survey is to chart the locations and missions of defense organizations within the defense system of Czechoslovakia in the pre-Munich era, to trace the relations among the respective organizations and to take a closer look at the cooperation these organizations upheld with organs of the Czechoslovak Supreme Military Administration in the field of running paramilitary training for civilians in the period between 1929 and 1938. The survey builds on previous historic research done on the issue in question, focusing on the first decade of existence of the first Czechoslovak Republic. In addition, we are shown how individual political entities understood and realized military training and also what sense and importance they accorded to such activity.
