The Avars´ siege of Constantinople, including many Slavs, in 626 is the greatest incident of the history of Avars´ Khagan. This short work is the first in Slovak historical writing concerning this incident in detail. In the published study, the author follows the travels and directions of the movement of the Avars´ army towards the capital city of Byzantine Empire. He draws the attention to the structure of the Avar Army, its armaments, the tactics and the way of their fi ght, the location of the Avar military forces in front of the city walls and the protection of the Avar military camp. He works out the question of the number of Kaghan´s army, and supports the belief it to be at about 60-80 000 men. He provides a description and identifi cation of individual siege weapons. A great deal of his attention is drawn to the ethnic structure of Kaghan´s army , the multitude of Avars, Slavs, Gepids, Turkish Bulgarians.
