Milan Rastislav Štefánik belonged to the most decisive exponents contributing to the foundation of an independent state of Czechs and Slovaks and the split of AustroHungarian Monarchy during the WW I. He thrived hard for that goal through in his committed and dedicated service in the lines of French Air Force and later on as a politician- diplomat concerned with the establishment of Czechoslovak legions abroad fighting on the site of the Allies. Above all there is his outstanding stay in Serbia where he conducted in 4 combat flights, as well as his negotiation with the representatives of Serbian government in order to approve the establishment of Czechoslovak military unit. That consisted of Austrian and Hungarian war prisoners of Czech and Slovak origin. The achievement of all those plans was hindered by a military collapse of Serbia in during November 1915.
