KLEIN, Bohuš: Building of defense systems in the area of Slovakia by the end of Middleage.
Vojenská história, 2, 13, 2009, pp. 26–42. The author stems from the fact that all the historical context of building up ground defense systems in Slovakia in the past is tightly connected with the development of military in general. In addition, it is connected also with the development of geo-political diversifi cation and the status of Slovakia in Hungarian Monarchy, i.e.: in central Europe. From the point of view the author states that the defense system might be defi ned as the summary of all systematically build up fortresses and facilities made to defend a particular geographical area still guarded by the assigned military with its structured organization. The fortresses built up not only to defend our current area of Slovakia used to be built up at the tops of hills, or the peaks of terrain, the river banks and their deltas, on solid islands of the rivers surrounded by fl ood lands and on some other naturally defended areas of a strategic interest in the country. The basic condition of the building was a wide fi eld of agricultural background, a plentitude of water supplies, building material and a specialized trade production nearby.
