The article deals with the foundation and the first days of Carpathian group in 1941. The author stems from the German plan of „Barbarossa“ and demonstrates that the assignment of the Hungarian army in the attack against the USSR did not bear mere political function, but it held its military significance. Th e main reason was the fact that in case of its failure to attack the USSR from the Hungarian land a 200 km gap between the 17th army and the Romanian army would have been abandoned. The author extensively describes also the beginnings of the fights in the German-Russian front before the Hungarian invasion into the war and the division and the organization of the Hungarian army. There were 8th frontier brigade and the 1st mountain infantry brigade at the frontiers with the USSR responsible for the observation of the movements on the other side of the border. In the developing Carpathian group it was the Fast Corps that played a decisive role and which won the greatest fights from within the Hungarian Army in 1941. In the last part of the study the author deals with the issues of crossing the borders and the fights from 28 to 30 June 1941. On 30 June the Carpathian Group was founded to fill in the gap between the German 17th Army and the German 11th Army. That was the reason why Hungarian liaison officers were assigned to the German upper headquarters.
