The author known for his works on Czechoslovak fortress objects and their artillery focused his attention on one type of the fortress cannons used in the WWII in Slovakia as well. It especially deals with the fortress cannon calibre 45 mm of the Soviet provenance. The author describes the development, the basic construction and combat properties, the combat use as well as the aft er –war usage of the weapon in the Czechoslovak Army and its preservation as a museum exhibit. From the very beginning the author pinpoints the fact that the Soviet professionals were mainly inspired by the construction of the fortress cannon type 36 caliber 4 cm produced by Limited Company – Škoda factories in Plzeň in the 30s of the 20th century. Th e preliminary negotiations on the deal of the weapon to the USSR were unsuccessful and after the split up of Czechoslovakia most of the canons were included in the German Army artillery. The weapons were primarily used on the German fortification front nearby Bratislava.
