The author, the employer of Military History Museum in Vienna, provides us with the genesis of the institution from its beginnings of the 50´s of the 19th century ongoing. The material tries to focus on a detailed view of the building of the institution from its foundations from the architectural point of view, as well as the collection efforts stemming from the general army needs and the economic possibilities refl ecting the military-political development of the society up to the present. The author analyses a wide scale of issues including the personnel and activities of some decisive representatives of the institution.
