Vojenská história, 4, 14, 2010, pp. 104–110.

The author of the study is well-known for his major interest in the military technique and fortification objects of the former Czechoslovakia. In this case he focuses on one of the few Austria-Hungarian fortification monument preserved in Slovakia. He deals with a concrete “blokhaus” built to protect the rail-bridge through the Danube in Komárno. The building of the monument was approved by the Emperor Franz Joseph I at the beginning of the WWI and realized during the war. Th e study in its short version (3.5 pages) brings the fundamental information not only about the original construction of the object, but also about the intentions of the headquarters of the Czechoslovak Army on its usage towards the protection of the Komárno bridge in case of a Hungarian attack in the 2nd half of the 30s of the 19th century. Contrary to the processed plans on the modernization of the guardhouse, the plan was never successfully conducted and the object not included in the system of the Czechoslovak fortification. In the development of the WWII it was not seriously damaged.

Key words: Military History. Slovakia. Guardhouse. Komárno. Austria-Hungarian monarchy.
