Ambition of the study of this duo of authors is to map and analyze the armament production in
Slovakia back in the “Czechoslovak” period of the era in question, i.e. from its beginning, which has
already been pertracted, until the end of 1992. Considering the changing nature and extent of the
special production or approaches thereto, as well as in effort to explain the issue based on the
largest extent of information and in the context of a broader range of contexts, the authors decided
to subdivide the study into two sections. The first section deals with the armament production
development and its sharp increase until 1987, when the special production in Slovakia as well as
within Czechoslovakia achieved the highest level since the end of the World War II. These issues are
dealt with in connection with the key factors influencing or accompanying the armament production
development in Czechoslovakia, as well as on the background of international and internal changes.
The first section of the study is based especially on original documents from the archives in the
Slovak Republic and Czech Republic, in particular on the documents from the as yet recondite or
inaccessible, or possibly unused archival funds.
