The study aims to point out what sort of ideas and concepts had the representatives of the Slovak army about the need to secure the borders from 1939 to 1944. The author highlighted the status of dealing with the issue, he depicts considered alternatives and the attempts for their implementation and also compares how the issue was dealt with during the 1st Republic. He underlines the fact that the issue was not resolved, taking into account foreign political situation as well as own problems of the Slovak army. The greatest attention is paid to the analysis of preserved basis for operational plans of the individual division commands of January 1940, which are probably the only documents of such character. The author characterises the plans of tactic-operational usage of the Slovak Army units in the case of enemy attack (the proposals are exclusively of defensive character). He also describes the ideas of army representatives about the protection of borders; it means their notions about the way of combat in a period from enemy attack to the mobilisation of peace army. He depicts proposals for getting control of terrain by units in individual segments before the main protection zone.
